2009 Year 4–7 Athletics Carnival On Friday !9th June, all of our students from Years 4 – 7 participated in the Interhouse Athletics Carnival. At the end of the day Leichhardt House was the Champion Athletics House winning convincingly from Drysdale House. Five new records were set at the carnival. The following students broke these records: Sharni Wight Girls 9 years 100m, 200m, 800m Kelsey Heuir Girls 9 years Long Jump Shania Tickner Girls 11 years 800m Congratulations to these students on their achievements. Thank you to all parents who assisted on the day. All students who participated are to be commended for their effort and enthusiasm they all displayed. Well done everyone. A school squad will be announced after the holidays and will train for a few weeks. From this squad a school team will be selected to compete at the “A” Schools Carnival on Friday 21 August. This will also be held at East Ayr. Year 1-3 Athletics Carnival The Year P-3 Athletics Carnival was held on the last day of Term 2. It was great to see the large number of parents/grandparents come along and support their children. It was an excellent day and all students enjoyed their activities. The results at the end of the day were very close with first and second separated by two points and third and fourth separated by one point. Leichhardt House was the eventual winner of this year’s carnival. The results were: Leichhardt 405 Wickham 403 Drysdale 369 Cook 368

carnival. It was a great day. “A” School’s Athletics Champions Congratulations to our athletes who represented us at the ‘A’ School Championships on Friday 21 Augusy. All athletes participated well and are to be complimented both on their terrific efforts in track and field events and their excellent behaviour on the day. It was great to see everyone doing a terrific job and enjoying their day. Once again, East Ayr took out the aggregate trophy and Home Hill won the average trophy. 2009 saw our aggregate points improve by 163 and our average points place improve from 3rd in 2008 to 2nd this year. Five East Ayr students finished the day as Age Champions. Congratulations to: Sharni Wight 9 year girls Tia Henaway 10 years girls Sally Rickards 13 year girls Hayden Mc Closky 12 year boys Nathan Rickards 13 years boys Five records were broken on the day. Two of these records was broken by East Ayr students. Congratulations to Molly Barbagallo who broke the 12 year girls shot put record by 14cm. Molly’s new record stands at 8.69m. The other record belongs to the 9 Year Girls relay team who broke the 4 x 100m relay record by .2 seconds. The new record stands at 1:07:26. Congratulations to Sharni Wight, Paris Williams, Kristin Peterson and Kelsey Heuir. Thank you to our teachers who trained students for this carnival before school, at little lunch, big lunch and after school. Thank you also to Mr Timms, our groundsman, for having the facilities in great condition. A great effort by everyone. Well done everyone. Thank you. District Athletics Trials From the ‘A’ Schools Carnival, 50 students were selected to compete in the District Trials at Home Hill on Friday 28 August.
Congratulations to all of these students on their selection in the A School’s representative team. Well done. On Friday 28 August 50 East Ayr Students represent the “A” Schools at the Burdekin District Trials at Home Hill Primary School. Congratulations to all of our competitors, their efforts were terrific and their behaviour was excellent. From this Trial 20 East Ayr Students were selected to represent the Burdekin at the North Queensland Trials held in Townsville yesterday. These students were;
NQ Athletics The North Queensland Athletics were held in Townsville on 8 Septemberr. While none of our athletes made the North Queensland team there were some good performances. Sharni Wight is the 9years 100m champion after a terrific run in the final. As well, Nathan Rickards put in a great effort in making the 100m and 200m finals as did Tia Henaway in the 100m final. Pia Robinson ran well to finish third in the 800m. In the field events, Molly Barbagallo and Meg Andrews also performed well with Molly finishing third in shot put and Meg Andrews finishing second in long jump and third in high jump.
